This illustration depicts Marie-Claude, a character inspired by the aristocratic queen bees of TV-series “Revolutionary Girl Utena” (1997) by Kunihiko Ikuhara, and the manga “The Rose of Versailles” (1972) and “Oniisama E” (1975) by Riyoko Ikeda.

Her skeletal appearance conveys an extraordinary pride and willpower, so strong they defy the passage of time and the laws of life itself.

Here, she is seen in a moment of vulnerability, away from the public eye and in a cute star print pyjama set. Her embarrassment is well hidden, drowned in the sea-like folds of seemingly infinite bedsheets.
